Why This Exists

This is an educational resource — not a substitute for a lawyer. Whatever you decide is on you. It's always advisable to consult with an attorney about your specific situation, even a limited-scope one for just the parts you need.

Read this before your consult, not instead of it. Walking in already knowing the basics means you spend that hour asking sharper questions instead of paying to learn vocabulary. And when you are ready to hire someone, see their actual case history first — before you pay for the call, not after.

Ask Frankie
Same question, same straight answer — every time

General, standard info. Not personalized advice, not tailored to your specific case — just the plain-English version of what the law actually says.

What's the difference between legal decision-making and parenting time in Arizona? Free
Frankie says Legal decision-making is about who gets to make the big calls — school, medical care, religion. Parenting time is just the schedule of where the kids actually are. Arizona courts treat them as two separate questions, so one parent can have most of the parenting time while decision-making is still shared 50/50, or vice versa.
How is child support calculated in Arizona? Free
Frankie says Arizona uses the Income Shares Model — it estimates what both parents combined would've spent on the kids if the household hadn't split, then divides that number based on each parent's share of total income and parenting time. The state publishes an official worksheet; most attorneys and courts use the same calculator.
Can the court impute income to a parent who isn't working? Full Library
Frankie says Yes — if a parent is voluntarily unemployed or underemployed without a reasonable excuse, Arizona courts can "impute" income, meaning they calculate support as if that parent were earning what they're capable of earning, based on work history, education, and local job market data.

What happens if my ex doesn't show up to trial? Full Library
Frankie says The trial can generally proceed without them, and the court can rule based on the evidence and testimony presented. It doesn't automatically mean you win everything you asked for — the judge still has to find your requests reasonable and supported.

How long does an uncontested divorce take in Arizona? Full Library
Frankie says Arizona has a mandatory 60-day waiting period from the date the other spouse is served, before a decree can be finalized — even if both sides agree on everything. Most uncontested cases finalize somewhere between 60–90 days.
